Albertville
This was a study looking into the design of a kit of parts which would be suitable in varied climatic conditions. The brief was to design a multi use building using the kit of parts.
After analysing a variety of climates namely Bristol, Lyon and Albertville. Upon completion of the study I was able to create a suitable kit of parts which was flexible enough for the variety of areas. I chose to further develop my design in Albertville, as it presented the most challenging climatic, design and cultural differences.
The kit of parts is compromised of a glulam skeletal structure; the walls have been adapted to match the design of the region as well as the adverse climate.
The building has been designed to reduce construction wastage and reduce the time spent on site. Prefabrication has been chosen, as this allows for much of the construction to be carried out off site. This enhances the accuracy of the construction and also increases the quality.
The design as a whole has been designed to be sympathetic to its surroundings. It has developed over the design process to take into consideration an array of issues that are presented on site.
